OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE – MEXICO CITY
Day 1 USA / MEXICO CITY/ PUEBLA
Departures from US cities to Mexico City, Mexico. Pablo. our guide. will welcome us at the airport and we will begin on our way to the “City of Angels” Puebla, Mexico. After we check into our Hotel (4 Star) we will celebrate our first holy mass in Mexico at The Church of the Company of Jesus in Puebla. We will admire the facade of this beautiful church that alternates grey quarry and a decorative composition that resembles white lace. We will return to the hotel for a delicious dinner and overnight.
Day 2: PUEBLA
After breakfast we begin our day visiting the Cathedral of Puebla. This will be the starting point of the “City of Angels.” We will continue with the magnificent Palafoxian Library, a collection founded in the 17th century by the Bishop Juan de Palafox y Mendoza, the promoter of the access to literature for all natives. We will then follow the route to St Dominic’s Church and visit the “Golden House”, the Chapel of the Virgin of the Holy Rosary. Next, we will celebrate holy mass at Santa Clara of Assisi Church, a convent built in the 16th century. After mass we will stroll the Parian Market, the most famous crafts market in the city of Puebla. For the last part of our day we will take a panoramic tour of modern Puebla from the motor coach, finishing the ride with a visit to the newest museum in Puebla. The International Baroque Museum. After this exciting day we will enjoy a splendid dinner at the hotel and have a good rest.
Day 3: PUEBLA / TLAXCALA / MEXICO CITYToday we will start the day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel and then check out. We will start on a panoramic tour from the motor coach through the forts, where the famous 5th of May battle took place in in the 18th century. Saying good bye to the capital of Puebla we will head to an old indigenous site called San Andres Cholula, located a few minutes from the capitol. There we will visit the beautiful churches that represent the Mexican popular Baroque, Santa Maria Tonantzintla Church and San Francisco Acatepec Church. We cant miss the most impressive “Great Pyramid of Cholula” which has the largest base in the world stretching more than 1300 feet per side. It is worth it to climb to the top to enter the Church of Our Lady of the Remedies, which was consecrated by the Franciscans in the 16rh century. At a short distance from the pyramid we will find the Church of San Gabriel, with a mudejar style chapel that exhibits more than 80 domes on its top. After our visit to Cholula, we will continue to Tlaxcala State to celebrate holy mass at the Church of San Miguel del Milagro, the pride of the people living in Tlaxcala. It is here where St Michael the Arch Angel appeared to Diego Lazaro in 1631. We will finish the day arriving to Mexico city and check into our hotel (4 Star) and enjoy a wonderful dinner together.
Day 4: MEXICO CITY / COYOACAN / XOCHIMILCOToday we will begin with a flavorful buffet breakfast! Now that we are in in Mexico City, it is spectacular to start by visiting San Angel neighborhood in the south of the Mexican capital. Here, we will celebrate holy mass at The Parochial Church of Carmen. After mass, we can visit the Museum of this monastery. Continuing towards the center of a colonial style area called Coyoacan, we will visit The Parish of San Juan Bautista, one of the first churches built after the Spanish Conquest. Taking the bus, we will head toward the very south of the city to Xochimilco borough. Xochimilco means “the place of the flowers” in the Aztec language. Reaching the center of the borough, we will be the guests of The Monastery of San Bernardino, usually surrounded by traditions and colorful festivities. Afterwards, will go to enjoy a ride on a traditional Aztec boat called “Trajinera”. We will be navigating along the waterways surrounded by floating gardens while enjoying typical Mexican snacks, drinks, and music! it is said that if you don´t experience this ride, you can´t say you have been to Mexico! After this wonderful day we will return to the hotel for dinner and a relaxing sleep.
Day 5: MEXICO CITY / GUADALUPE SHRINEA Buffet breakfast will begin our day. After breakfast we will move to the most important building in Mexico City, both because of its religious value and its architecture: The Metropolitan Cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located at the center of the Capital. In front of the Cathedral is the main Plaza of the city, known as the Zocalo, where the great Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec empire, was once settled. We will be entering The National Palace, the epicenter of the political life of the country and then catch sight of the remains of the Aztec Main temple. Continuing towards the Santo Domingo Church, a baroque building of the 18th century, then walk to the Profesa Church, where it is said that around 20 thousand workers were used to build the entire project in the 16th century. The end of the walking tour will be at the Fine Arts Palace, the maximum representation of culture in Mexico and the Alameda Central Park, the first garden and walk of the capital built in the 16th century. We will continue our journey by bus to arrive to the Santiago Tlatelolco Church and its archaeological site, the place where, now Saint Juan Diego, the messenger of the Virgin of Guadalupe, used to come to attend the first masses in the communities of the New Spain. At the end of the day, we will arrive to The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will celebrate our first holy mass in the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Guadalupe, at the Capuchin Chapel. We will then get our first glimpse of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on St Juan Diego’s tilma. We will return to the hotel for a delicious dinner and a good rest to prepare for the next exciting day.
Day 6: MEXICO CITY / GUADALUPE SHRINEThe main day has come! Finishing our buffet breakfast, we will transfer to the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Guadalupe and begin the day with celebrating holy mass at one of the high chapels of the Basilica of Guadalupe, officially called Insigne and National Basilica of Santa Maria de Guadalupe, Shrine of the Catholic Church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Pablo will give us a tour and orientation of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe and we will have the whole day free to experience the magnificence of this holy place where the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared 500 years ago. 12 million pilgrims visit the Shrine annually to honor Our Lady. The day concludes with our last dinner at the hotel.
Day 7: MEXICO CITY / USAThis morning we enjoy our last breakfast of the pilgrimage. After breakfast and checkout, we will move to the Sanctuary of Guadalupe and attend our last holy mass, this time at The Chapel of the Indians. After mass we will have a short time to say our goodbyes to this beautiful Shrine. We transfer to the Mexico City airport to take our respective return flights home.
